Enjoy our photos from the stunning Xieng Khuan, also known as Buddha Park, Vientiane in Laos. It’s 25km outside of Vientiane, easily accessed and most inexpensively, by taking local bus 14 from the main terminal to the outskirts of town. It’s not too far from the friendship bridge gateway on the Mekong River joining the Laos-Thai border.
There are over 200 statues in this small meadow, merged Buddhist and Hindu philosophy and mythology create fascinating and rather odd sculptures. There is no shortage of Buddhas, demons, animals and mythical creatures to stare at in amazement. Some look rather old, yet they are just weathered as this was built in 1958. This place makes a great afternoon wandering and a highlight when visiting Vientiane.[smart-grid captions=”false” title=”false”]
